Birthday Girl

The owner of the store I work at had the foresight to save the daily paper on the day June was born--a really nice thing for him to do. I looked at her horoscope and here's what it said:

BIRTHDAY BABY: You are entertaining, inquisitive, sensitive, playful and a good storyteller. You are observant and imaginative.

Sounds good to me!

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving and Merry (early) Christmas!

Hey everyone!

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted anything... Newborn babies take up a lot of time, as we've come to realize!

Here are some pictures to tide everyone over until I have time to write more. Soon!

Thanksgiving 2010. She was about as big as the turkey:

Here's a picture from yesterday, June at 4.5 weeks old:

Here's a trip we took to my work for a DJ gig that Dusty was a part of. Fun times in the record room:

Two Weeks With June in November!

Hello Everyone!

Well, it's been about two weeks since little Junebug decided to make her appearance. Just here to give the rundown of events while she sleeps.

So labor was pretty challenging (duh) but we made it through. I had back labor and it was very intense, add to that this baby was about 9 1/2 lbs--but somehow I was able to push her out. I still don't get how it's possible. I was in labor for about 12 hours. We delivered at the Nurse Midwifery Birthing Center. It was an all-around crazy experience. During the pushing portion of our evening, the midwife felt as though June's heart rate was dropping too much with each contraction and decided she wanted to head over to the hospital for additional help. I was in a crazy state at that point, all I heard was "get in the car and go to the hospital" when all I could do was push. All I could imagine was me having a baby in the hospital lobby or even worse--in the car on the way over there. So I kept pushing. It was all I could do to communicate that I DID NOT want to go to the hospital, I just wanted the pain to subside and to meet my baby. And a few minutes and a couple f-bombs later I had June on my chest. It was INSANE! Best feeling ever. We had her at 7:20am and left the Birthing Center at about 2pm. We got some Cafe Yumm on the way home and so began our life with June!

So that's the quick and dirty version of my labor. Life with June has been pretty sweet, though quite an adjustment! The first few days I kept thinking to myself "What have I got myself into?! This is crazy!" But the more time we spend together, the more I get to know her, the more she gets to know Dusty and myself, it feels very comfortable, like she's always been hanging around. She's such a sweet baby so far, she's definitely got a Scorpio spirit about her, though!

Here are some pictures... Many more to come!

Better Late Than Never!

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to quickly update everyone (before baby wakes up): June made her arrival (fashionably late and with a bang) on Monday, November 15th at 7:20am. She weight 9 lb 8 oz and and measured 21 inches long. We are so freaking excited to have her here with us! Best Monday ever!

Can't wait for you all to meet her.

Here is the link from her hospital "webalbum" if you'd like to see that, too!

Just search under her birthday, November 15.

Yep...

Still waiting. But not to fear, we will be induced if she is not here by mid-next week. So there is a light at the end of the tunnel! We are SO ready to meet her.

Due Date... DUN DUN DUN!

Well, today is the big day. Even though nothing's really happening in terms of the baby coming, I'm happy that we made it! What a long, crazy, exciting, sad, happy, funny, odd, and strange trip it's been. Kinda like a Grateful Dead song minus the psychedelia. I hope everyone out there is enjoying the lovely fall weather. I will keep you all updated if anything happens.

Almost 39 Weeks!

Hello!

Well, it's the home stretch as they say and we are patiently (or not so patiently--depends on who you ask) awaiting the arrival of our baby. Save for the occasional poke or prod, she's not giving me much to work with in terms of labor clues. Guess we're on June's clock now, might as well get used to it! Maybe she'll come a bit early and choose Halloween as her birthday. Or maybe she'll choose Veteran's Day. I'd go with Veteran's Day because you get a guaranteed day off from school every year. Who wouldn't like that? Too bad she has no concept of national holidays yet.

Other than that, nothing else to report. Hopefully the next update will include pictures of an adorably smooshy little newborn. Let us hope!

Junie June

Today I learned that the woman who played June Cleaver, Barbara Billingsley, passed away. We were kind of back and forth with the name June, but I think that now it's semi-official. It's kinda like one June leaves and a new one enters. Anyhow, I loved her in Airplane. I thought I would post a clip from Youtube because it's just awesome. RIP Barbara Billingsley AKA June Cleaver:

Full-Term?!

Hello everyone!

So tomorrow I'll be full term. Which rules, because basically I can have the baby anytime now and it will be OK. So come on baby, time is money!

I kid, of course. She can take her sweet time. Although... I wouldn't complain if she came a little early.

So excited!

Locked and Loaded

Weekly update here... I heard a rumour that baby's head is "nicely engaged".

(To which my mom replied, "Well, when is she getting married?" Nice one, mom.)

Anyhow, it might not mean much--but I'm hoping it means that she makes her grand entrance sooner rather than later.

A girl can dream, right?

I hope everyone is doing well, it's been great weather lately. Saturday is my last day at work and then I start maternity leave. Pretty excited about it all! It's getting down to the wire, folks!

That's all for now, adios.

BIG BABY J!

I was told that little June might be a 9 lb. + baby at the midwife appointment today. It didn't come as too much of a surprise, but it's funny to think of a chubby little baby just chillin' in the womb. I'm betting that she wont quite make 9 lbs. But we'll see! Either way she'll be a cute little chubber.

Photo Shoot.

I don't have a scanner but I thought I would take a picture of her 3D ultrasound picture and put it up on the blog:

This is her at 25 weeks old. Crazy, huh? That's her arm in front of her face, in case you were wondering.

Almost 34 Weeks, Eek!

Insomnia! Yay! Just another one of the lovely side-effects of pregnancy. Oh well, it gives me time to update this blog. It's hard to imagine that soon I will be full-term and ready to have this baby. I am reeeeaaaally looking forward to it. I say that in all honesty, simply because at this point, I am pretty much over being pregnant. I'll take the benefits of pregnancy (baby) minus the actual growing of the child please, thanks. It hasn't been a horrible pregnancy at all, in fact quite the opposite--we are just ready to move on. Impatient, really. Dusty is really looking forward to meeting her as well. I think he feels similar to how I do, kind of like a "let's get this show on the road" mentality. I should put more pictures on here, but there's really nothing to take pictures of yet. At least nothing of interest. Except my swollen feet. And trust me, you don't want to see that. No, you don't.

Anyhow, just checking in! Hope everyone is well.

THANK YOU

To everyone who contributed to our very near and hopeful future: THANK YOU. We had La Fiesta Del Bebe AKA Baby Shower on Saturday afternoon. It was a lot of fun. I had a blast going through everything yesterday! My house is swimming in a sea of pink! We are really grateful to have such nice people in our lives. I can't even begin to thank everyone for all of the gifts and hand-me-downs given over the past seven months. Your generosity is overwhelming, seriously! It's going to make this whole transition into parenthood much smoother. So THANK YOU!

So now that we have most of the gadgets and clothing she'll need, we just need the baby. We start childbirth classes tonight, hopefully we'll get to watch some really bad informational videos from the 80's. I love those videos.

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

Hello!

Hi everyone! Katie here. Well, we have about two months to go until the little one arrives. At this point things are looking good. She's doing well, healthy and strong. Her favorite pastimes include wiggling and hiccups. We've started the process of painting her room and getting ready for her homecoming. There isn't much else to report. Aside from the occasional growing pains I'm feeling pretty good!

Work has been good and I think that she thoroughly enjoys her eight hours of music each day. Working at a record store while pregnant has been quite the unique experience. For the most part customers have been really sweet (and inquisitive) and my co-workers have been super supportive and kind. I really can't complain. I hope to work until the big day, whenever that may be.

Oh yeah, we are thinking about calling her June. That's the big front runner. But that could change in the blink of an eye! I hope everyone is well. I'll write more when something cool happens. Right now it's kinda boring around here. Here's a picture of her unfinished room in the meantime:

and a picture of me (and baby!) for posterity's sake:

That's my Aunt Anne behind me, she came to visit for a few days last week. It was super fun!
